China Asks Japan to Show `Caution' in China Sea Gas Dispute
"Japan needs to be cautious in exploring for natural gas in an area of the East China Sea that is the subject of a maritime border dispute between the two countries, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
``Japan should consider the bigger picture of maintaining relations between the two countries and should consider stability in the East China Sea area,'' Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said in a statement on the ministry's website. ``Japan should proceed with caution,'' the statement said.
Japan plans to go ahead with exploring the area for natural gas as the Chinese government has failed to come back with a satisfactory response to Japan's queries about drilling platforms the Chinese are building in the area, Japanese Trade Minster Shoichi Nakagawa said earlier this week. China is building two drilling platforms near the Chunxiao gas fields, which may hold as much as 200 billion cubic meters of natural gas." Full news @ Bloomberg
